Building Coco Space - #14 - Settling In
Installing a solar system, setting up an office, and getting ready for the real thing.
Installing a solar system, setting up an office, and getting ready for the real thing.
We got the power
After too many promises and disappointments, I decided I couldn't rely on the local electricity supplier. If I knew this would be such a headache, I'd look for an alternative long ago.
The solar setup has pros (green, independent, quiet) and cons (expensive upfront, not useful at night, maintenance), but from all the options, that made the most sense to me.
The biggest concern in solar is usually the batteries that provide the power overnight. But since we don't have accommodations yet and are not planning to open 24/7 (for now), I don't need many of them, which makes it a little easier.
It's been two weeks with the system and so far, so good. I try to push it to its limits with all the appliances and A/Cs running, but our 24 panels (14kw) are doing damn well.
Moving in
I try to spend most of the day at the space now. I want to use the facilities daily to better understand my "product" and experience it like future users will do.
I've taken the time and built myself a crypto-bro-level office, which makes it even nicer to come in every morning.
I believe only by being there will I know what's missing and have time to adjust as much as possible.
Not gonna lie, it is a bit hard to focus while the workers are still around as I obsessively keep checking on them, but I'm getting there.
Construction
We are still dealing with a few leaks, swimming pool issues, and deep well thingis, but I'm positive we will solve them in the next weeks.
We finished the outdoor kitchen, painted the pool, and added a trench. We also got nice new plants around our front and added fancy Bermuda grass in the back.
Operations
I can't keep delaying it. There are many other things to do, but I just can't keep pushing this. I need to start hiring and training staff so I can transition all my ideas of how the space will work to practical practices.
That's what I will focus on this month (and maybe also on finding a carpenter, designing the tables, building a signup and onboarding system - but that's it, I promise).
Opening
Unless something huge happens (and I'm careful with my words), We're about to open on March 18th. I figured there would always be more things to do and improve, so we need a final date, and that's it.
I will probably open the signup this month to better understand how many people will register and actually pay. I know from my online businesses that this number is usually much lower than the number of people saying they will.
It is pretty stressful lately, with so many things going on, but it's going to be worth it, I believe.
Thanks for reading again, I bet I'll have some juicy updates next month ✌🏽
